The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2022) begins its 47th edition today and will run until September 18th. The 11-day event will be held across several venues across Toronto’s Entertainment District, including the TIFF Bell Lightbox, Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, Roy Thompson Hall, the Princess of Wales Theatre, and the Royal Alexandra Theatre.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is an annual set of film festivals that runs throughout Canada. Founded in 1976, the festival continued for over 45 years and is now recognized as the world’s largest public film festival.

TIFF 2022

This year’s TIFF event will feature over 200 films–with 63 being world premieres–that are sure to leave viewers surprised and guessing until the end. TIFF brings with it a bustling schedule of film showings, actor and director appearances, red carpets, and elaborate premieres. According to a list unveiled by TIFF organizers, stars and celebrities who are set to make appearances at this year’s Toronto event include Oprah Winfrey, Harry Styles, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Michelle Yeoh, and more

FEATURE FILMS

TIFF 2022’s opening night selection will feature the world premiere of Sally El Hosaini’s ‘The Swimmers,’ the true-life story of the Mardini sisters on their journey from war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Additional buzz-worthy films that will be featured at TIFF include: 

The Fabelmans – Steven Spielberg 

A personal film based on the master director’s childhood set in post-world war II Arizona. When his glowing passion for moviemaking becomes entangled with a shattering family secret, Sammy Fabelman uses his love for film to navigate the new world. 

Weird: The AL Yankovic Story –Eric Appel 

“Daniel Radcliffe dons “Weird Al” Yankovic’s Hawaiian shirt and accordion in Eric Appel’s infectiously entertaining and hyperbolic biopic about the legendary parody songsmith.”

Moonage Daydream – Brett Morgen

A kaleidoscopic weave of archival performances and candid interviews, this portrait of David Bowie from director Brett Morgen (Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck) immerses us in the restless starman’s singular galaxy of music, art, and identity.

On the Come Up – Sanaa Lathan 

A talented high-school student dreams of making it big in the world of battle rap, in Sanaa Lathan’s debut feature based on the New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give).”

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – Rian Johnson 

“Famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) travels to Greece for his latest case, in Rian Johnson’s follow-up to Knives Out starring Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, and Jessica Henwick, with Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.”

TICKETS

Both in-person and digital screening tickets for TIFF 2022 screenings can be purchased online via Ticketmaster. Tickets went on sale to the general public on Monday, however, highly-anticipated screenings were quickly sold out. For those looking to test their luck at snatching up some last-minute passes, TIFF offers rush tickets, which allow customers without tickets to wait in line roughly 15-60 minutes before a set screening for potential last-minute openings. Rush tickets are $45 for Premium screenings and $25 for Regular screenings.
