Interview: Trekspert Mark Altman Talks ‘Wrath Of Khan’ Screening, ‘Free Enterprise II’, And Future Of Star Trek

Mark A. Altman is hosting a virtual screening this Saturday at 5 PM of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan with his Inglorious Treksperts cohost Daren Dochterman, on CYA.Live (in association with Paramount Pictures). Altman, a writer/producer for shows like The Librarians and Castle, has produced numerous podcasts with producer Dean Devlin (Independence Day, Stargate) and is also the author of the bestselling two-volume oral histories, The Fifty-Year Mission, about the history of Star Trek. He is also a writer/producer of the beloved romantic comedy Free Enterprise starring William Shatner and Eric McCormack, and is currently the showrunner of The CW’s hit sci-fi series, Pandora, which returns to the network next year for its second season.

Paramount Opens The Vault For New Line Of Classic Blu-rays, Theatrical Re-Releases And Weekend Virtual Screenings In The Age Of Coronavirus

More directly tied to the new age of quarantining, Paramount is also getting into the virtual screening business — for the bargain-basement price of $1.99 to access CYA.LIVE, where fans can watch and participate via text and video, at least for the next couple of Saturdays. It actually started last weekend with a 25th anniversary showing of Tommy Boy, hosted by the film’s director Peter Segal (and ironically serving as a nice tribute to co-star Brian Dennehy, who died the day before). Coming up this Saturday is Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan along with hosts of the Inglorious Treksperts podcast, Mark A Altman and Daren Dochterman. On Saturday, May 2, my personal favorite movie ever Breakfast at Tiffany’s — just two days before the late Audrey Hepburn’s birthday. That will be hosted by Andrea Kalas, head of Paramount Pictures Archives.

AN EXPERIENCE TO REMEMBER, WATCHING TOMMY BOY WITH DIRECTOR PETER SEGAL AND FANS

I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses going to a movie theater during this time of quarantine. Yes, there is something to be said for seeing a film how the director intended - full screen with the scent of popcorn in the air while surrounded by friends and strangers alike all reacting to the movie. Unfortunately, no one knows when we will all be able to do that again so Cya.live has teamed up with Paramount Pictures to once again bring a little bit of that community feeling back to movie watching. For three consecutive weeks, they are hosting a "watch party" which kicked off on April 18th with 1995's Tommy Boy.

For the 25th anniversary of the Chris Farley, David Spade comedy “Tommy Boy,” Paramount Pictures will be offering a virtual screening event hosted the film’s director, Peter Segal. (Segal will likely reflect on his experience working with Brian Dennehy, who played Big Tom in the movie. Dennehy died on Wednesday.) Viewers can interact via text and video with other fans as well as with special guest hosts. Tickets are $1.99.

Paramount Hosting Live Virtual Screening Of Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan

Often considered to be the best entry in the Star Trek movie series, 1982’s Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan stands up to multiple viewings. From the stripped down plot, a departure from the more philosophy-heavy Star Trek: The Motion Picture, to excellent cast performances, Khan is always worth your time. In fact, Paramount are celebrating the movie this month with a live virtual screening on April 25th, which is being hosted by Mark A. Altman and Daren Dochterman of the Inglorious Treksperts‘ podcast. With more demand for virtual screenings and fan events due to coronavirus, the studio are running these events to showcase its back-catalogue of titles, with content available through CYA.LIVE.
