She Makes Comics: a Women's History She Makes Comics traces the fascinating history of women in the comics industry. Despite popular assumptions, women have been writing, drawing, and reading comics since the medium’s beginnings in the late 19th century. And today, there are countless numbers of women involved in comics and its vibrant fan culture. She Makes Comics is the first film to bring together the most influential women of the comics world, and features dozens of interviews with such vital figures as historian Trina Robbins, underground comics creator Joyce Farmer, Curator for Comics and Cartoons, Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Columbia University Karen Green, Elfquest creator Wendy Pini, Captain Marvel writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, and dozens of others. Plus, this documentary demonstrates that the power and influence of women will continue to develop and grow in significance as the comic industry expands. After the screening, director Marissa Stotter and other special guests will discuss the film and answer audience questions. Marisa Stotter is the producer and director of She Makes Comics. This is her first film, which she made just after she graduated from college on the East Coast and moved to LA to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. A lifelong lover of comics and storytelling in all forms of media, she currently resides in Los Angeles and works at IDW Entertainment, helping to adapt comics published by IDW to film, TV, video games, podcasts, and more.
