About the film THROUGH THE NIGHT is a cinema verité portrait of three working NY mothers whose lives intersect at a 24-hour daycare center: a mother working the overnight shift as an essential worker at a hospital; another holding down three jobs to support her family; and a woman who for over two decades has cared for the children of parents with nowhere else to turn. Stars Introduction: Nanfu Wang (Oscar Shortlisted Filmmaker) is a mother and a documentary filmmaker. Originally from China, Wang currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and three-year old son. Wang directed, produced, filmed, and edited feature documentaries Hooligan Sparrow (Sundance 2016), I Am Another You (SXSW 2017), and One Child Nation (Sundance 2019). In her films, Wang creates intimate character studies that examine the impact of authoritarian governance, corruption, and lack of accountability on the lives of individuals and the well-being of communities. With the rigor of an investigative journalist and immersive, emotionally powerful storytelling, Wang interrogates notions of responsibility and freedom, particularly amid the repressive state mandates in her native China. Originally from a remote village in China, Wang overcame poverty and a lack of access to formal education and eventually earned three Master’s degrees from Shanghai University (M.A. in English Literature), Ohio University (M.A. in Media Studies), and New York University (M.A. in Documentary Filmmaking). Allyson has over 10 years of experience conceptualizing, developing, and executing strategic plans and programs where nonprofits, companies and corporations work together to make an impact on communities. From her work with United Way for Southeastern Michigan leading community impact, to her work with the Atlanta Hawks in social responsibility, she has developed and created several successful strategies driving community change. Allyson adds value to the NBCDI network through informing and leading the development of strong collaborations and formal partnerships with national organizations and funders. Through a strong and collaborative relationship between the National Office and Affiliates, Allyson provides Affiliate’s with the tools needed to inspire new donors through effective strategy, program planning and measurement strategies. Allyson’s life purpose is to help people realize and understand their own power. Email: ajones@nbcdi.org Loira Limbal (Director/Producer) is an Afro-Dominican filmmaker and DJ interested in the creation of art that is nuanced and revelatory for communities of color. She is the Senior Vice President of Programs at Firelight Media. Firelight is committed to making films about pivotal movements and moments in the U.S. Firelight's flagship program - the Documentary Lab - is a fellowship that provides mentorship, funding, and industry access to emerging filmmakers of color. Limbal’s current film, THROUGH THE NIGHT is a feature documentary about a 24 hour daycare center. THROUGH THE NIGHT was part of the 2019 Sundance Edit & Story Lab and was selected for world premiere at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. Her first film, ESTILO HIP HOP, was a co-production of ITVS and aired on PBS in 2009. Additionally, she co-produces and helms the popular Brooklyn monthly #APartyCalledRosiePerez. Limbal received a B.A. in History from Brown University and is a graduate of the Third World Newsreel's Film and Video Production Training Program. She is a Sundance Institute Fellow and a former Ford Foundation Justfilms/Rockwood Fellow. She lives in the Bronx with her two children. Deloris "Nunu" Hogan & Patrick "Pop Pop" Hogan (Family Daycare Owners) - Deloris "Nunu" Hogan and Patrick "Pop Pop" Hogan founded Dee's Tots in New Rochelle, New York in 1985 with the mission to enrich the children they serve one day at a time through individual and group play, interactive learning, and to provide a safe “home away from home.” Most of the constituents are single parent, low-income families. They provide a unique service, 24 hours a day child care for families for whom child care options are limited. The care that they provide is essential to the empowerment of the kids they serve and brings peace of mind to the parents they serve. They want the families they serve to know they are not alone. Diana Limongi - Diana Limongi is a nonprofit professional, blogger, activist, podcaster and Latina mom from NYC. Her podcast, Parenting and Politics, seeks to inform, inspire and empower parents to take action and make a difference. As a nonprofit professional and activist, Diana works with organizations that help mothers, children and families. She is currently working with MomsRising in the early learning campaign, where she is focusing on child care. In the past she has also worked on bilingual education, GOTV efforts, social emotional learning, healthy food and food justice. Diana has also worked with the Aspen Institute, ParentsTogether Action, Global Kids, and was a UN Shot@Life Champion. Diana has an MA in Migration Studies and an MPA in Nonprofit Management and is fluent in Spanish and French. She lives in Astoria, NY with her husband and two children. She also obtained the NYS teaching certification for Early Childhood Education, Birth through Grade 2. Sofia has worked in the field of early care and education for 16 years facilitating training, coordinating professional development services for family child care providers and teaching preschool children. She is a SUNY PDP approved Health and Safety Trainer, and American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Trainer. In addition, she teaches a variety of child development classes including Social and Emotional Development, Positive Discipline, Language Development, Routines & Schedules, and Family Child Care Business Management. Her interests include children’s mental health, children’s literature, creative arts therapy and holistic health.
