Figure skating boomed in North America following the attack on Nancy Kerrigan by the associates of Tonya Harding. The baby ballerinas were a generation of young skaters already in development who doubled down on their training and pushed one another (and their mothers and coaches) to reach new heights. At the 1999 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Sasha Cohen, Jenny Kirk, Sara Wheat, Ann Patrice McDonough, Elizabeth Kwon and Yebin Mok squared off in a junior ladies final that was so anticipated that it was covered by Christine Brennan, Phil Hersh and Jere Longman. In this video, we will analyze the short programs of the junior ladies and discuss the standouts in the novice and senior events. @theskatinglesson Join us on November 27 at 8:30 PM ET for our first weekly show on @gocyalive !
